The bible is clear that God ended personal communication and revelation with human beings with Jesus Christ:
In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son. (Heb 1:1-2)
Everything God has revealed to mankind has been laid out in His Last Will and Testament—the New Testament. He doesn’t tell people to sell their homes and donate the money to the church. He doesn’t “lay it on my heart” to go to Timbuktu and work the mission fields. Many who have foolishly listened to their own conscience—claiming it to be God—have met misery and failure as a result. Others have met with overwhelming success, but results don't mean a thing. Millions of people have converted to Mormonism. Does this mean God was in the mix?
The assumption that the voice whispering to a person is God is just that: an assumption. It could very well be Satan, who disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Cor 11:15).
Some of the worst monsters throughout the world's history have claimed to have had direct communication with God. Preachers who claim divine revelation, especially where money is concerned, have more sinister intentions, and should be avoided like the plague.
Claiming some kind of superior relationship or special communication with God is the mark of arrogance.
Notice the past tense--"has spoken to us." Not "speaks to us." God didn't somehow forget to add something, where He has to speak to you directly. Those who claim as much are claiming to have a secret phone line to the Throne.
A person can by led by the Spirit (Rom 8:14; Gal 5:18), but this is gained through prayer, study, and application of what they learn from the Word. Being led by the Spirit doesn't mean direct and detailed conversation with God.
The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. (Rom 14:22)
In other words, if you're going to insist that God speaks, or has spoken to you, keep it to yourself. Don't blab it around, using it as proof that what you're doing is inspired by the Holy Spirit. It may not be.
