The World: Bogus Belief #7
I can work my way to Heaven

Most people believe only “really bad people like Hitler” are going to Hell, while they themselves will go to Heaven. How? Because they are “better” than guys like Hitler. However, God’s standard for righteousness is not you or me, but Jesus Christ.

There are very few “Mother Teresas.” Let's face it: most people care little for the poor, but are only concerned with Self. They are not working their way to heaven by any stretch of the imagination. Our society believes that heaven is for all “nice polite” persons. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been married and divorced four or five times, or cheated on your taxes, or heartily laughed at filthy jokes—a person can still get to heaven according to this philosophy. However, the bible is clear on this subject:
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (Gal 6:7-9)
Thinking God will heap eternal rewards on a person just for being basically good, while ignoring all the sin in one’s life is a fool’s belief. If so, Christ died for nothing, and His shed blood for all of our nasty little sins was all in vain.
